Gorgeous Greece: Hugo Chetcuti’s Top Places to Visit

Its endless pristine coastline, abundance of ancient ruins, whitewashed villages and delicious tzatziki have put Greece among the top travel destinations in Europe. If, like Hugo Chetcuti, you are looking for holiday inspiration, check out our list of some of the best places to visit in Greece.

1. The Greek Islands

The Greek islands are probably as exotic as you can get without leaving Europe. With over 200 to choose from, travellers are spoilt for choice with their ample beaches, ancient ruins, colourful harbours and volcanoes, making them one of Hugo Chetcuti’s favourite coastal places to visit.

Santorini is among the most picturesque, Mykonos the most cosmopolitan and known for its buzzing nightlife, while Samos is characterised by its stunning pebble beaches and scuba diving opportunities. For something quieter and more low-key, Kos offers beautiful landscapes and farmlands rich in grapes, figs and olives, whereas Skiathos is an idyllic place for natural lovers looking for vast green hills which contrast beautifully with its sandy beaches and medieval castles.

2. Peloponnese

Located in the southernmost region of both Europe and Greece, Peloponnese is a wide peninsula shaped much like a leaf. With its quaint sandy beaches, olive groves, spectacular ancient ruins such as Epidaurus; an enormous outdoor theatre, as well as Olimpia – the site where the first Olympic games were hosted – there is something for everyone.

3. Athens

Widely known as the cradle of Western civilization and the birthplace of democracy, Athens houses an interesting blend of history and modernity. Other than its world-famous archaeological ruins, including the Acropolis and the Parthenon, downtown Syntagma has become a hub of sophisticated wine bars, great restaurants and alternative art spaces.

4. Paxoi

This island gem is famed for its beautiful beaches and underwater caves, perfect for scuba diving. However, visitors will also love Paxoi’s picturesque villages, olive groves and sulphur thermal springs.

5. Mount Olympus

Hikers and adventurers out there will love Greece’s highest, most majestic mountain; home to exceptional biodiversity, towering trees, gorges and wild rocks.

Whichever you end up choosing, it is hard to go wrong in Greece! It is equally hard to go wrong with our delicious Greek-style burger at Hugo’s Burger Bar, owned by Hugo Chetcuti. Bite into a taste of heaven, in the earthly form of lamb, feta cheese, tomatoes and bianco leaves!
