World Cup Inspired Burgers

There are many reasons to look forward to summer this year – not least, the highly anticipated World Cup! We’re sure many of you are gearing up to enjoy four weeks of non-stop football action, and preparing to cheer on your favourite teams and players. And we all know that whenever sport is around, food is inevitably involved too. Hugo Chetcuti’s chefs have compiled a list of burgers around the world made in honour of the world’s biggest football tournament.

The Mundial Burger in Germany

In 2014, German restaurant “Heroes Premium Burgers” revealed its own World Cup burger – a beef patty with mango slices and chilli sauce, complete with mozzarella, lettuce and tomatoes. We can just imagine how their customers celebrated after that stunning final showdown between Die Mannschaft and Brazil…

The Pacha Burger in Russia

As the World Cup 2018 draws nearer this June, restaurants and eateries all throughout Russia are preparing specialised menus to attract tourists and visitors who will be coming over to watch the tournament. In the federal Republic of Mordovia, Saransk, the restaurant Mordovskoye Podvorie has created the Pacha burger in honour of the football competition. Pacha is a traditional recipe from Mordovia that comes in the form of a thick pancake; it’s pacha that will be substituting the bread buns to give football fans a taste of Russian delights combined with everyone’s favourite food.

The Lean Machine in Glasgow, Scotland

This burger was named after one of the monikers belonging to Cristiano Ronaldo. It contained not just one, but two beef patties, covered in a topping of peri-peri chili mayo together with two slices of Swiss cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. Created to celebrate the 2014 World Cup, the Scottish burger joint Bread Meats Bread said that if Portugal was eliminated, they would replace the burger’s lettuce bun with a brioche bun instead.

The Switz Burger in France

Burger joint Blend in Paris created the Switz Burger as a way of supporting their compatriots for their upcoming match against Switzerland. The patty was a slice of marinated beef, smothered in blue-vein mushrooms and Gruyere cheese. It was topped off with a Thousand Island and iceberg dressing. Nobody does it quite like the Parisians!

The World Cup Winner in the U.K.

Trust the British to go all out when it comes to football. Big Al’s Food Service has come up with a menu called the World Cup Kit, amongst which is the World Cup Winner – a juicy beef patty with all the classic ingredients that every burger lover craves.

Hugo Chetcuti invites you to come over and discuss your favourite footie games this World Cup, over at Hugo’s Burger Bar in St. Julian’s!
