5 Burger Festivals Around the World

We may not all speak the same language, but there’s one method of communication that all of us around the world understand – food! More specifically, burgers. Few other comfort foods are as globally adored as the good old beef patty, sandwiched between a soft and chewy bun. And when people love something this much, the natural thing to do is celebrate it. How? With a food festival, of course! Here are a few of the best ones, brought to you by Hugo Chetcuti and team.

1. Cardiff Burger Fest, the UK

Yes, Wales does have more to offer than sheep jokes, Brexit and Christian Bale. Take this burger festival in Cardiff as an example. It usually takes place at the DEPOT warehouse, one of the city’s most popular culinary venues. Besides offering all the traditional recipes with beef, meat, bacon and chicken, they also cater for vegans with plant-based patties. The festival supports Shelter Cymru, a Welsh charity that provides housing assistance for the less fortunate.

2. Hugo Chetcuti recommends: Stockholm Burger Festival, Sweden

2018 was the third year in a row that the Swedes successfully held the Stockholm Burger Festival. With low prices and free entrance, the event has now become one of the most highly-anticipated events in the city. Burger restaurants from London were also invited to share their recipes and creations, being the only capital city in the world to top Sweden as the best burger-city in Europe. Gluten-free and vegan burgers are usually served as well.

3. Amsterdam Burger Festival, the Netherlands

Back in 2016, this event proved so popular that it attracted about 8000 visitors, selling out all tickets in the process. It’s back again this July, hosted by DOK Amsterdam (one of the liveliest spots in the city). Burger lovers can enjoy a vast selection of cheeseburgers, hamburgers, veggie and even sushi options!

4. Hellmann’s Burger Fest, Turkey

Istanbul is host to Turkey’s only burger festival, having enjoyed three successful consecutive years so far. The event is usually accompanied by live music and various live activities, such as sausage or burger workshops given by professional Turkish chefs.

5. Burgerfest, Wisconsin, the USA

There are so many burger festivals across the 50 states of America that it was hard to pick just one; however, we’ve settled on this fantastic gala in Seymour, Wisconsin, run entirely by volunteers. Seymour is considered to be the “home of the hamburger” in the USA, and Burgerfest began in 1989 to celebrate the birth of the burger. There’s live music, kids’ games, a car show and of course, burgers galore!

Hugo Chetcuti invites you over to Hugo’s Burger Bar in St. Julian’s, where we supply a number of amazing patty recipes to satisfy entire crowds of burger lovers every day! It’s situated right on the edge of Paceville, Malta’s nightlife district, so you can keep partying the night away afterwards.
